Maniac Mansion: Day of the Tentacle is a classic 1993 point-and-click adventure game developed by LucasArts for DOS. A sequel to the original Maniac Mansion, the game follows three unlikely heroesโBernard, Hoagie, and Laverneโas they travel through time to prevent the mutated Purple Tentacle from taking over the world. Renowned for its brilliant cartoon-style animation and clever humor, the game features a unique mechanic where actions taken in the past directly affect the future.
How to play
Use your mouse to interact with the environment through a series of verbs at the bottom of the screen (such as “Use”, “Pick up”, or “Talk to”). The core of the gameplay revolves around the Chron-o-John, a time machine that allows you to freely swap items between the three characters in different time periods (the 18th century, the present, and the 23rd century) to solve complex, time-bending puzzles.

Game is controlled by the same keys that are used to playing under MS DOS. For fullscreen press ‘Right Alt’ + ‘Enter’. |
Tips
- Flush items down the Chron-o-John to send them to other characters. If you are stuck with one character, try to see if an item from another era can help them.
- Changing history is key: if Laverne needs a tree removed in the future, have Hoagie convince George Washington to chop down a cherry tree in the past.
- Pay close attention to dialogue and examine everything; the game’s logic, while comedic, is surprisingly consistent.
