Magical Doropie, released later in the West as The Krion Conquest, is a side-scrolling action-platformer developed by Vic Tokai for the NES in 1990. Heavily inspired by the Mega Man series, players control a witch named Doropie as she battles the mechanical Akudama Empire using an arsenal of elemental spells to save the world.
How to play
Navigate the stages by jumping, crouching, and using your magic wand to defeat enemies. Unlike its inspiration, you begin the game with all of your elemental magic abilities unlockedโincluding fire, freeze, a defensive shield, and a broom for flight. You can cycle through these spells at any time. The default NES controls in the browser map the D-pad to your arrow keys, A and B (jump and attack) to the Z and X keys, and Start and Select to Enter and Shift.
Tips
- Doropie can crouch and shoot directly upward, giving you more directional control in combat than similar platformers of the era.
- You have access to the broom ability right from the start. It is invaluable for flying over difficult platforming sections or bottomless pits.
- The shield magic can block incoming enemy projectiles, which is very helpful for surviving tricky encounters and boss fights.
