Lode Runner: The Legend Returns is a 1994 action-puzzle game for DOS, developed by Presage Software and published by Sierra On-Line. In this vibrant update to the classic formula, you navigate single-screen levels to collect all the gold while outsmarting relentless Mad Monks. With no jump button, survival relies entirely on your ability to dig holes in the terrain to trap enemies, drop to lower levels, and manipulate the environment.
How to play
Collect every piece of gold in the stage to open the exit portal. Use the arrow keys to run, climb ladders, and traverse hand-over-hand along bars. Because you cannot jump, you must dig holes to your left and right to trap pursuing monks or carve a path downwards. (Use the standard DOS keys for digging, often mapped to Z and X or the numpad). Press Right Alt + Enter to toggle fullscreen mode.
Tips
- Monks trapped in holes will eventually climb out, and the holes will fill back in shortly after. You can safely run across the head of a trapped enemy to cross a gap.
- If a monk steals a piece of gold, trap them in a hole and they will drop it for you to collect.
- Plan your digging carefully. It is very easy to dig yourself into a pit with no way out, forcing a restart.
