Game description:

Live A Live is a groundbreaking 1994 turn-based RPG developed by Squaresoft for the SNES. Instead of a traditional linear narrative, the game features distinct chapters set across vastly different time periodsโ€”from prehistoric times and Edo-period Japan to the Wild West and the distant future. Each scenario introduces a unique protagonist and specialized gameplay mechanics before eventually intertwining in a grand overarching finale.

How to Play

Select from the available chapters in any order to experience each protagonist’s story. Combat utilizes a grid-based tactical battle system where positioning and attack ranges are critical to survival.

  • Movement: Arrow Keys (D-pad)
  • Action/Cancel: Z, X, A, S (SNES Face Buttons)
  • L/R Shoulders: Q, W
  • Start/Select: Enter / Shift

Tips

  • Prehistoric Chapter: Pogo cannot speak, so rely on his keen sense of smell to track enemies and discover hidden items.
  • Edo Japan Chapter: As Oboromaru, you can choose a pure stealth pacifist route or attempt to defeat every enemy in the castle for different rewards.
  • Grid Tactics: Always pay attention to enemy attack ranges. Move out of their line of fire or strike from the sides and behind to avoid deadly counterattacks.
