Little Samson is a 1992 action-platformer developed by Takeru and published by Taito for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Set in the kingdom of Forgy, the game tasks four legendary heroes with defeating the resurrected emperor Taibaeru. Distinguished by its fluid character animations and dynamic character-swapping mechanics, Little Samson is widely regarded as one of the most technically impressive action games in the late NES library.
How to Play
Guide the four heroes through side-scrolling stages filled with traps, hazardous platforming, and giant bosses. Press Shift (Select) to bring up the hero selection menu and switch characters on the fly:
- Samson: Balanced adventurer who climbs walls and attacks with bell projectiles.
- Kikira the Dragon: Can hover temporarily in mid-air and fire charged flame attacks.
- Gamm the Golem: Slow but heavily armored, immune to floor spikes, and strikes with devastating melee punches.
- Kory the Mouse: Small enough to fit into tight passages, capable of walking across ceilings, and lays remote explosives.
Controls
- Arrow Keys: Move / Climb walls and ladders
- X: Jump
- Z: Attack
- Shift: Open hero selection menu
- Enter: Pause game
Tips
- Manage health pools wisely: Each hero maintains an independent health bar. Switch out a wounded character before they die to preserve your team.
- Use Gamm for spike pits: Gamm’s thick stone body lets him walk across deadly spike traps completely unharmed.
- Climb walls with Samson and Kory: Take advantage of Samson and Kory’s ability to scale vertical surfaces and ceilings to discover hidden health expansions and skip difficult hazards.
