Game description:

Legend of Mana is a non-linear action RPG developed by Square and released for the PlayStation in 2000 in North America. Instead of following a set path, you rebuild the world of Fa’Diel yourself using the “Land Make” system. By placing artifacts on an empty map, you create towns, dungeons, and landscapes, which dictate the quests and characters you encounter. The game is celebrated for its incredibly detailed, hand-drawn 2D artwork and sweeping soundtrack, offering a unique, open-ended take on the classic Mana series formula.

How to Play

Your goal is to restore the Tree of Mana by completing various story arcs across the lands you create. Battles take place in real-time on the same screens you explore. The default PlayStation controls mapped for your browser are the arrow keys for movement, Z for the Cross button (primary attack / confirm), X for the Circle button (jump / cancel), A for Square (abilities / strong attack), and S for Triangle (menu). Enter acts as Start and Shift as Select.

Tips

  • The placement of your artifacts matters. Placing an artifact farther from your home or adjacent to specific element levels can change the difficulty of the monsters inside and the items you find in shops.
  • Don’t ignore the forge and instrument crafting systems at your home. Forging your own weapons with the right materials often yields gear far more powerful than anything you can buy.
  • If you get stuck on a quest, return home and speak to Li’l Cactus upstairs. Recording your adventures in his diary can sometimes trigger the next event.
