Game description:

Klax is a puzzle game designed by Mark Rubin and Dave Akers for Atari Games, which released it in arcades in 1989 before this 1990 Famicom version reached Japan through Hudson Soft. Tiles slide down a conveyor and your job is to catch them on a paddle, then flip them into a five-column bin below — lining up three or more of the same color in a row, column, or diagonal clears them as a “Klax.”

How to Play

Each wave sets a specific goal shown on screen — a set number of Klaxes, a full row, or a diagonal — and the conveyor speeds up as you advance. Letting too many tiles fall uncaught, or letting the bin fill to the top, ends the game.

Keyboard controls:

  • Left / Right arrow — move the paddle
  • Down arrow — speed up the conveyor
  • Up arrow — throw the tile on your paddle back onto the conveyor
  • X — A button (flip the tile off your paddle into the bin)
  • Enter — Start  |  Shift — Select

Tips

  • Throw an unwanted tile back onto the conveyor with Up rather than jamming it into your bin — it keeps columns open for whatever the wave’s specific goal actually needs.
  • Speed up the conveyor with Down once you already know how to use the next tile — it clears the queue faster without costing you paddle positioning.
