Game description:

Killer Instinct Gold is a fighting game developed by Rare and released for the Nintendo 64 in 1996. As a home conversion of the arcade hit Killer Instinct 2, it delivers fast-paced, combo-driven combat, bringing the series' signature pre-rendered fighters and detailed 3D arenas to the console.

How to play

The objective is to drain your opponent's two life bars using a mix of special moves and combos. The fighting engine relies on a six-button layout featuring three punches and three kicks. In the browser, the default Nintendo 64 controls map movement to the arrow keys and attacks to the keyboard, though plugging in a gamepad will make executing special moves much easier.

Tips

  • Understand the combo flow: A standard combo begins with an Opener, flows into an Auto-Double, and finishes with an Ender move to officially bank your damage.
  • Break out of trouble: You can interrupt an opponent's chain with a Combo Breaker, but you must accurately match the strength level (quick, medium, or fierce) of the move they are currently hitting you with.
  • Use the practice tools: Take advantage of the game's dedicated Training Mode to learn individual character move sets and get a feel for the strict timing before jumping into the main arcade ladder.
