Released in 1987 by Taito for the Famicom Disk System, Kiki Kaikai – Dotou Hen is a unique action-adventure departure from the arcade original. Instead of a linear shoot-'em-up, this entry drops shrine maidens Sayo-chan and Miki into a cryptic, interconnected overworld. You must battle demons, manage limited resources, and explore perilous dungeons to lift the curse before time runs out.

How to Play

Your goal is to defeat the hidden demon bosses scattered across the map. Unlike the first game, your ofuda (paper charms) are no longer infinite—you must collect them from defeated enemies. They also serve as currency to purchase power-ups and unlock dungeon entrances. Pay attention to the day/night cycle, which acts as a strict time limit.

Controls: Use the D-pad (Arrow Keys) to navigate, A (X) to throw ofuda, B (Z) to swing your purification wand, and Start (Enter) to pause.

Tips

• Conserve your ofuda: Since charms are both your primary ranged weapon and your money, avoid spamming them. Rely on your wand for close combat when possible.
• Watch the clock: The day and night cycle is constantly ticking down. If you take too long exploring without making progress, the game will end.
• Map your route: The overworld is intentionally confusing and features looping paths. Keep track of landmarks so you don't waste precious time wandering in circles.
