Game description:

John Elway’s Quarterback is a classic vertical-scrolling American football simulator released for the NES in 1989. Ported from the popular arcade release by Leland Corporation, the game brings strategic play-calling and arcade-style gridiron action to the home console, all endorsed by the legendary Denver Broncos quarterback.

How to Play

As both coach and player, you select offensive and defensive formations from a playbook before executing them on the field. For the NES console, the controls are mapped simply: use the D-pad to move your players or navigate the playbook, press the A button to pass the ball or dive for a tackle, and use the B button to snap the ball or confirm a play selection. In the browser, these correspond to the arrow keys for movement, with Z, X, and Enter serving as the action and start buttons.

Tips

  • Passing is generally more reliable than the running game; watch for your receivers to break coverage and time your throws carefully.
  • On defense, taking manual control of a lineman or linebacker at the snap gives you the best chance to break through the offensive line and sack the quarterback.
