Game description:

International Track & Field brings Konami’s classic athletic franchise to the Game Boy Color with a unique twist. Unlike the purely competitive arcade originals, this handheld entry features an unexpected anime-styled story mode where you guide a college student through training routines, social activities, and track meets. After proving yourself in the story, you can unlock a traditional arcade mode to compete directly in classic events like the 100m dash, long jump, and javelin.

How to Play

The core gameplay relies on the series’ signature mix of rapid button tapping for speed and careful timing for jumps and throws. The original Game Boy controls map to your keyboard as follows:

  • Arrow Keys: D-pad (set angles and time actions)
  • Z / X: A / B buttons (alternate tapping rapidly to build speed and power)
  • Enter: Start
  • Shift: Select

Tips

  • Drum the keys: For speed events, drumming the Z and X keys alternately with two fingers is much faster and less tiring than trying to mash a single key.
  • Watch the angle: In throwing and jumping events, raw speed only gets you so far. Releasing your jump or throw at the optimal angle (typically around 45 degrees) is essential for setting records.
