Game description:

100 World Story (also known as Hyaku no Sekai no Monogatari: The Tales on a Watery Wilderness) is an imaginative board game and RPG hybrid released for the NES/Famicom in 1991 by Ask Kodansha. This version includes the English fan translation by AlanMidas, making this Japan-exclusive multiplayer adventure fully playable. Players roll dice to move across a sprawling world map, triggering random encounters, fighting monsters in turn-based combat, and racing against friends or CPU opponents to complete quests and level up, much like a digital tabletop campaign.

How to Play

In 100 World Story, your goal is to grow stronger than your rivals and defeat the boss of each scenario. The standard NES controls apply: use the D-pad (Arrow keys) to navigate menus and make choices, press A (Z) to confirm actions or roll the dice, and B (X) to cancel. Press Start (Enter) to begin the game or access the in-game menu to check your character’s stats and inventory.

Tips

  • Prioritize towns early: Stop at towns as often as possible to upgrade your equipment; standard weapons quickly become ineffective against stronger map monsters.
  • Watch your HP: Board game mechanics mean you can’t always predict when you’ll reach an inn. Always carry healing items to survive bad dice rolls between safe zones.
  • Use magic strategically: Spells can be used on the field to hinder your opponents or boost your own movement, which is crucial when racing for an objective.
