Game description:

Hostages – The Embassy Mission (Japan) is a tense tactical action game released for the NES in 1989. In this port of the popular computer strategy game (released as Rescue: The Embassy Mission in North America), players command a specialized SWAT team tasked with infiltrating a hijacked embassy. The operation unfolds in three distinct phases: positioning snipers in surrounding buildings while dodging searchlights, rappelling down the embassy walls to breach the windows, and navigating a first-person maze inside the building to neutralize terrorists and secure the hostages.

How to Play

To successfully complete the mission, you must master each phase’s unique mechanics, from stealthy movement to fast-paced shooting. As an NES release, the game uses standard controls: use the Arrow Keys to move your operatives and aim your weapons, Z and X (mapped to the A and B buttons) to fire or perform actions, and Enter to start the game or pause.

Tips

  • Time your movements carefully: During the initial sniper positioning phase, always hide behind cover and wait for the enemy searchlights to pan away before making a run for the next position.
  • Check your corners: In the final first-person sequence, terrorists can surprise you around sharp turns or behind doors. Use your map to track your location and keep your weapon ready before entering a new room.
