Honoo no Doukyuuji: Dodge Danpei (also known as Dan’s Dodge Ball) is a 1992 sports role-playing game developed by Sunsoft for the NES. Based on the popular anime and manga series, this English-translated version offers a completely unique take on the sport. Instead of fast-paced arcade action, the game plays like a tactical RPG where you use a virtual deck of cards to determine your team’s movement, passing, and attacking strategies during matches.
How to Play
The objective is to defeat the opposing team by depleting the stamina of all their infield players. Because this is a card-battle game, your controls are menu-based. Use the D-pad (Arrow Keys) to select cards from your hand and navigate menus. Press A (Z) to confirm your action or card selection, and B (X) to cancel or go back. Start (Enter) pauses the game. Each card features different icons and numbers that dictate the power and type of action your character will perform.
Tips
- Pay close attention to the stamina of your key players; using powerful throw cards drains their energy quickly, so rotate your attackers to keep them fresh.
- When on defense, try to predict the opponent’s strategy and use defensive cards with high evasion or catching stats to minimize damage.
