Holy Magic Century, released in 1998 for the Nintendo 64 (known in North America as Quest 64), is a 3D role-playing game developed by Imagineer. As one of the earliest RPGs for the console, it takes you into the colourful fantasy realm of Celtland, where you play as a young apprentice mage named Brian searching for his missing father.
How to Play
Your objective is to explore the world, battle monsters, and collect elemental spirits to strengthen Brian’s magic. Combat is turn-based but takes place in a free-roaming circular arena, where positioning matters just as much as your spells. Using standard emulator controls, the N64 analogue stick is mapped to the arrow keys, A and B are mapped to Z and X, and Start is the Enter key.
Tips
- Focus on Water Magic early: Levelling up your Water element gives you vital healing spells, which you will need to survive long treks between towns.
- Keep moving during battles: You can move around the arena on your turn to line up area-of-effect spells or retreat from enemy attack range.
- Hunt for hidden spirits: Elemental spirits are scattered around towns and paths. Check behind buildings and in corners to boost your magic stats without having to grind enemies.
