Harri’s Legend is a notorious unlicensed 2001 beat ’em up for the NES, developed by Hummer Team. Loosely inspired by Harry Potter, this bizarre bootleg casts aside magic in favour of side-scrolling martial arts. The game is actually a heavy modification of the developer’s earlier pirate title Titenic, swapping out sprites to create a surreal brawler where a wizard boy kicks his way through generic street thugs.
How to Play
Despite the magical theme, gameplay is a standard brawler where you move right and punch or kick enemies into submission. You can use the D-pad to move, the A button to jump, and the B button to attack, along with Start and Select for menus. To play in your browser, these are mapped to the arrow keys, X and Z, and Enter and Shift respectively. Unusually, all five of the game’s levels can be selected directly from the main menu, though they must be completed in order to trigger the ending sequence.
Tips
- Keep moving horizontally to avoid getting surrounded by enemies, as their attacks can easily trap you in a hit stun.
- Rely on your jumping kick (press A then B) to safely close the distance against tougher opponents without taking damage.
