Hammerin’ Harry is a side-scrolling action platformer developed by Irem and released for the NES. Players control Harry, a spirited carpenter who wields a giant wooden mallet to smash his way through the corrupt Rusty Nailers Construction Company after they demolish his home.
How to Play
The objective is to fight through stages filled with hostile construction workers and bosses, using Harry’s mallet for both offense and defense. The game uses standard NES controls: the D-pad moves Harry, A jumps, and B swings the hammer. The hammer can be swung upward to block falling projectiles or swung downward into the ground to unearth hidden items and temporarily stun nearby enemies.
Tips
- Use your overhead hammer swing defensively; it is essential for deflecting hardhats and debris thrown by enemies above you.
- Collect POW items to upgrade to a larger, more powerful mallet, making it much easier to deal with grouped enemies.
- Keep an eye out for hidden safety pants; grabbing them will allow Harry to absorb one extra hit before losing a life.
