Hallow’s End is a Halloween-themed ROM hack of EarthBound for the SNES, created by developer H.S. around 2014. Rather than following Ness, this custom adventure stars three children—Sally, Clyde, and Craig—who go trick-or-treating on Halloween night, only to stumble into a strange, hostile world where townsfolk no longer recognize them and monsters roam. It features a complete overhaul of the original game with brand new maps, enemies, items, and music, offering a full-length RPG experience with a distinct, slightly lighter tone compared to other famous EarthBound hacks.
How to Play
The game uses the standard SNES RPG controls inherited from the EarthBound engine. Use the D-pad to explore the new environments, and press the A button (usually mapped to X on your keyboard) to talk to characters, examine objects, and confirm menu selections. The B button (mapped to Z) cancels actions, while X or Y (mapped to S or A) opens your main menu to manage items, PSI abilities, and equipment.
Tips
- Talk to everyone: Since this is a completely custom world, NPCs will give you essential clues about where to go next and what items are useful against specific Halloween monsters.
- Manage your resources: Like the original game, healing items and PSI points are limited early on, so don’t be afraid to grind a few levels near a safe resting spot before venturing into unfamiliar territory.
