GunForce: Battle Fire Engulfed Terror Island is Irem’s classic 1992 run-and-gun shooter for the SNES. Often seen as a spiritual predecessor to the Metal Slug series, it drops you onto a heavily fortified island where you must blast your way through waves of enemy troops, helicopters, and mechs. What sets it apart from contemporaries like Contra is the ability to commandeer various enemy vehicles, from jeeps to hovercrafts, adding heavy firepower to your arsenal.
How to Play
Your goal is to survive each stage and destroy the boss at the end. Use the Arrow Keys (mapped to the SNES D-pad) to move, aim, and crouch. Press Z (A button) to shoot, X (B button) to jump, and Enter (Start) to pause. When standing next to an empty vehicle, press the jump button to hop in and take control of its mounted weaponry.
Tips
- Vehicle preservation: Vehicles offer incredible firepower but take damage. Hop out before they explode to save your life.
- Weapon cycling: You carry multiple weapons once collected. Use the shoulder buttons (mapped to A and S by default) to cycle through them and find the right tool for the current situation.
