Game description:

Released by Sega in 1991 for the Master System, Golden Axe Warrior takes the familiar arcade beat-’em-up universe and transforms it into a sprawling action-adventure. Playing as a young hero on a quest to defeat Death Adder, you explore the vast overworld of Yuria, brave challenging labyrinths to recover nine magical crystals, and gather powerful weapons and armor. Though drawing heavy inspiration from The Legend of Zelda, it introduces its own distinct mechanics like elemental magic, varied weapon speeds, and hidden villages that give it a unique identity.

How to Play

Your goal is to conquer the nine labyrinths, gather the crystals, and stop Death Adder. Navigate the world using the D-pad (Arrow keys). Attack enemies using your sword with Button 2 (X), and use your equipped magic or secondary item with Button 1 (Z). To access your inventory, change equipment, or view your map, press the system’s Pause button (Enter).

Tips

  • The game’s currency is “Horns,” dropped by enemies. Collect these to buy essential upgrades, magic, and healing from hidden merchants.
  • Different weapons have distinct attack speeds and arcs. While axes deal high damage, their slower swing can leave you vulnerable compared to standard swords.
  • Use the canoe and ship (once unlocked) to explore previously inaccessible waterways and reach new continents.
