Game description:

Gex 64: Enter the Gecko is a classic 3D platformer released for the Nintendo 64 in 1998 by Crystal Dynamics. The game follows the wisecracking reptile, Gex, as he is pulled out of retirement to navigate through various television-themed worlds. His mission is to collect TV remotes and defeat the evil Rez, who is trying to take over the Media Dimension. It remains memorable for its pop culture references and engaging platforming mechanics.

How to play

The objective is to explore the distinct TV channels, collect hidden remotes to unlock new levels, and eventually face off against Rez. You use the analog stick to move Gex, the A button to jump, and the B button to perform his signature tail whip attack. The Z-trigger is used to crouch, and you can press the jump button while crouching for a higher jump. In the browser, the Nintendo 64 controller is typically mapped to your keyboard’s arrow keys along with Z, X, C, and Shift.

Tips

  • Keep an eye out for Silver Remotes, which are hidden in obscure areas or rewarded for completing specific tasks, to unlock secret bonus levels.
  • Take advantage of Gex’s ability to stick to certain surfaces like webbed walls and ceilings to explore alternate paths.
  • The tail bounce attack (pressing crouch while in mid-air) is incredibly useful for defeating enemies from above and getting a little extra height.
