Released for the Nintendo 64 in 1999, Gex 64 – Enter the Gecko is a 3D platformer that drops players into the TV-themed worlds of the Media Dimension. Developed by Crystal Dynamics, the game tasks the wisecracking reptile Gex with exploring various movie and television spoofs to collect golden remotes and defeat Rez. The Nintendo 64 version includes an exclusive Titanic-themed level and slightly altered layouts compared to the original PlayStation release.
How to Play
Your objective is to explore open-ended 3D levels, complete specific tasks to collect remotes, and unlock new areas of the Media Dimension. The original Nintendo 64 controls map directly to your keyboard: use the arrow keys to move, the A button to jump, and the B button to perform Gex’s signature tail whip. Gex can also climb on certain walls and ceilings using his sticky feet, and use his tongue to catch power-up bugs.
Tips
- Explore the hub: The central hub world contains hidden remotes of its own, so take time to search its corners as you unlock new areas.
- Use the camera: The 3D camera can sometimes get stuck behind scenery; use the C-buttons to manually adjust your view before attempting tricky jumps.
- Whip everything: Breakable objects and enemies often contain useful items or health-restoring bugs, so use your tail whip liberally.
