George Foreman’s KO Boxing is a 1992 boxing game released by Acclaim Entertainment for the NES. Stepping into the ring as the legendary heavyweight himself, players fight their way through three circuits of 15 increasingly difficult opponents to claim the World Championship. The game functions similarly to Power Punch II, presenting the action from a behind-the-boxer perspective where timing your dodges and blocks is the key to surviving.
How to Play
Your goal is to win bouts via a knockout (four knockdowns in a match), a TKO (three knockdowns in a single round), or a judge’s decision at the end of three rounds. The controls are standard for the NES:
- D-pad: Evade left and right, or block high and low.
- A / B Buttons: Throw right and left punches (combine with the D-pad for body blows and uppercuts).
- Start: Pause the game.
Tips
- Earn Superpunches: By landing specific combinations of punches, you can earn powerful superpunches that deal heavy damage. Save these for when your opponent’s guard is down.
- Watch the Meters: Keep a close eye on the damage meters at the bottom of the screen. When a meter depletes, that boxer hits the mat.
- Counter-Punching: Because you cannot move freely around the ring, dodging your opponent’s attacks is critical. Focus on evading their punches first, then immediately counter while they are recovering.
