Released by System Sacom for the Super Famicom on June 25, 1993, Gekitotsu Dangan Jidousha Kessen – Battle Mobile is a Japan-only top-down vehicular combat game in the vein of Spy Hunter, wrapped around a Mad Max-flavored revenge story: a newlywed husband, whose bride is killed by highway raiders, spends the following year building a heavily-armed sports car to hunt them down.
How to Play
Steer your car up the scrolling road toward the end of each of the game’s five stages while your fuel gauge constantly ticks down, even when you aren’t taking damage â grab the energy pickups that appear along the way or you’ll run dry before reaching the boss. Most road enemies go down fastest to a direct hit rather than gunfire: dash straight into oncoming cars to wreck them, and save your limited missiles for targets you can’t reach by ramming, like helicopters.
Controls
- Move / Steer: Arrow Keys
- Dash / Ram Attack: Z (SNES B button)
- Fire Missile: A (SNES Y button)
- Pause: Enter (Start button)
- Select: Shift Key (Select button)
Tips
- Ram, don’t shoot: missiles are largely ineffective against the game’s regular road enemies â reserve them for airborne or otherwise unreachable threats and dash-attack everything else.
- Watch the fuel gauge: your energy meter drains continuously whether or not you’re being hit, so grab every pickup you pass instead of saving them for later.
- Brace for the back half: difficulty spikes hard in the later stages, and the hardest setting makes a single hit fatal â keep your energy topped up before pushing forward.
