Gargoyle’s Quest II is a 1992 action-platformer and RPG hybrid developed by Capcom for the NES. Serving as a prequel to the Game Boy original and a spinoff of the Ghosts ‘n Goblins series, it puts you in control of Firebrand. The game alternates between top-down overworld exploration where you interact with other ghouls to advance the story, and challenging side-scrolling action stages where you must use Firebrand’s unique movement abilities to navigate hazards and defeat enemies.
How to play
Your main objective is to traverse the Ghoul Realm, gaining new abilities and increasing your stats to ultimately defeat the King of Destruction. Firebrand can walk, jump, shoot projectiles, cling to vertical surfaces, and hover in mid-air for a limited time. Mastering the hover and wall-cling mechanics is essential for platforming and dodging enemy attacks.

Tips
- Upgrade your abilities: You will unlock better projectiles, higher jump capabilities, and longer hover times as you progress. Revisit areas once you have new powers to reach previously inaccessible items.
- Hover strategically: Your hover meter only replenishes when you land on solid ground or cling to a wall. Plan your aerial routes carefully and use walls to rest if you need to cross large gaps.
- Conserve health: Unlike many platformers, taking a hit will knock you back, which can easily send you falling into a pit or spikes. Prioritize avoiding damage over rushing through stages.
