Game description:

Released for the NES in 1989, Friday the 13th is a survival horror action-adventure game developed by Atlus and published by LJN. You take control of six camp counselors at Camp Crystal Lake, exploring the grounds to fight off zombies, wolves, and crows. Your ultimate goal is to survive Jason Voorhees’s relentless attacks and defeat him three times, all while rushing to save the children hidden throughout the cabins before it is too late.

How to Play

The game alternates between side-scrolling outdoor pathways and pseudo-3D indoor cabin mazes. You must monitor the alarm and use your map to track Jason’s movements, intercepting him when he attacks the children or other counselors. The default NES controls are mapped to your keyboard: use the Arrow keys to move and navigate, X and Z (mapped to the A and B buttons) to jump and attack, Enter for Start, and Shift for Select.

Tips

  • Prioritize finding better weapons early, such as the machete or the torch, as they deal significantly more damage than the starting rocks.
  • When the alarm sounds, Jason is attacking either a specific counselor or a cabin of children. Immediately check your map to locate the flashing red icon and rush there to stop him.
  • Fast, agile counselors like Chrissy and Mark are often the best characters to use because their high jumping ability makes dodging enemies much easier.
