The Flintstones brings the classic cartoon family to the Sega Master System in this 1991 release from Grandslam Entertainment. Rather than a standard platformer, the game is a collection of four distinct mini-games that test different skills. You’ll help Fred paint his living room wall using a squirrel as a brush while keeping Pebbles out of trouble, jump over rocks in a side-scrolling drive to the bowling alley, play a frame of bedrock bowling against Barney, and finally climb a dangerous construction site to rescue a wandering Pebbles.
How to Play
Each of the four levels has its own unique objective. In the painting stage, manage your paint supply and catch Pebbles before she scribbles on your work. The driving stage requires timing to jump obstacles, while the bowling level tests your aim and power. The final level is a vertical platformer. Since this is a Master System title, you primarily use the D-pad for movement, while Button 1 and Button 2 handle jumping, picking up items, and using tools (mapped to the Z and X keys on your keyboard, with arrow keys for movement).
Tips
- Keep an eye on Pebbles: In the first level, drop your squirrel brush immediately when Pebbles escapes her crib. It’s faster to catch her before she draws on the wall than to paint over her scribbles.
- Watch your wheels: In the driving stage, hitting a rock will knock a wheel off your car. You’ll be forced to stop and jack up the car to repair it, wasting precious time.
- Learn the bowling physics: The bowling segment has somewhat unconventional mechanics. Focus on consistently stopping the power and angle meters at the same spot to figure out a reliable strike approach.
