Fist of the North Star is a side-scrolling beat ’em up released for the NES in 1989, based on the classic post-apocalyptic martial arts manga and anime. You play as Kenshiro, the successor of the deadly Hokuto Shinken assassination art, fighting your way through wastelands and ruined cities to defeat rival martial artists.
How to Play
Your objective is to fight through hordes of enemies and defeat the boss at the end of each stage. Navigating the stages can be tricky, as many levels are maze-like. You must enter the correct doors to progress; choosing the wrong path will loop you back to an earlier section.
- Move / Enter Doors: Arrow Keys
- A Button (Jump / Kick): X
- B Button (Punch): Z
- Start / Pause: Enter
Tips
- Defeating certain enemies will cause a power-up star to appear. Collecting these stars increases your power level, granting you faster attacks and new techniques like projectile strikes.
- Memorize the correct sequence of doors to escape the labyrinth sections, as the game does not provide a map.
- Kenshiro’s base attacks have a very short reach. Time your punches carefully as enemies walk towards you to avoid taking unnecessary damage.
