Game description:

Final Fantasy IV is a landmark role-playing game developed by Square and released for the SNES in 1991. The game introduced the pioneering Active Time Battle (ATB) system, a departure from traditional turn-based combat that added a real-time element to encounters. Players follow Cecil Harvey, a dark knight from the kingdom of Baron, as he leads a changing cast of characters to stop the sorcerer Golbez from seizing powerful crystals.

How to Play

Your objective is to lead Cecil’s party across the overworld and through enemy-filled dungeons to protect the world’s elemental crystals. Combat relies on the Active Time Battle system, meaning you must quickly choose attacks, spells, or items as your characters’ action gauges fill. Outside of battle, you will visit towns to upgrade gear, buy items, and gather information to advance the story. Here are the default browser controls:

Tips

  • Navigating menus does not pause the enemy’s attack timer by default. Memorize the locations of your most-used spells and items to minimize time spent searching during difficult encounters.
  • Keep your party formation optimized: physical attackers should be placed in the front row to deal full damage, while spellcasters and ranged fighters belong in the back row where they take reduced physical damage.
  • Many enemies and bosses have elemental weaknesses. Casting the right elemental spell can deal massive damage, but pay attention to absorbing affinities to avoid accidentally healing your foes.
