Game description:

Feng Shen Bang (Asia) (Unl) is an unlicensed turn-based role-playing game developed by C&E Inc. and released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1995. Based on the classic 16th-century Chinese epic novel Investiture of the Gods, the game follows Nezha and a party of heroes on a quest to defeat the tyrannical King Zhou. It stands out as one of the few full-scale, traditional RPGs developed specifically for the Taiwanese Famicom market, offering classic 8-bit exploration, random encounters, and a sweeping mythological storyline.

How to Play

Your objective is to guide Nezha and his allies through various towns, overworld maps, and dungeons to overthrow the Shang dynasty. Command your party in turn-based battles to gain experience and gold, upgrading your equipment as you progress. Use the Arrow Keys to navigate the world and menus. Press Z to interact with characters, confirm selections, and inspect objects, while X is used to cancel actions or back out of menus. Press Enter for Start and Shift for Select to access your party’s status and inventory.

Tips

  • Grind early: Like many 8-bit RPGs, the difficulty curve is steep at the beginning. Spend time fighting low-level enemies near your starting town to build up levels and afford basic healing items before venturing into your first dungeon.
  • Talk to everyone: Key progression triggers often require speaking to specific NPCs. If you are stuck on where to go next, revisit towns and converse with every villager to uncover new clues or events.
