Game description:

F-16 Fighting Falcon is a combat flight simulator released for the Sega Master System in 1986. Taking the pilot’s seat in a first-person cockpit view, players must master the aircraft’s instruments to navigate, engage enemy MiGs in high-speed dogfights, and safely return to base. As one of the earliest true flight simulators on an 8-bit console, it offers a surprisingly technical experience requiring careful management of speed, altitude, and radar.

How to play

Your objective is to successfully take off, hunt down enemy aircraft, and land safely. Since this runs on a Sega Master System emulator, use the D-pad (mapped to your keyboard’s arrow keys) to pitch and roll your aircraft. Press Z (Button 1) to fire your weapons, and X (Button 2) to adjust your thrust and speed. Keep an eye on your radar to track bogies and your altimeter to avoid crashing.

Tips

  • Watch Your Speed: If you slow down too much while pulling tight turns, your plane will stall. Keep your thrust up during combat maneuvers.
  • Master the Radar: Enemy planes are difficult to spot visually until they are right on top of you. Rely heavily on your radar to intercept them.
  • Smooth Landings: When returning to base, align yourself early, reduce speed gradually, and ensure your landing gear is down before touching the runway.
