Game description:

Evil Zone is an anime-styled 3D fighting game developed by Yuke’s for the PlayStation. Standing out from complex technical fighters of its era, it uses a remarkably simple control scheme centered around just two primary buttonsโ€”attack and guardโ€”combined with directional movements. What truly makes the game memorable is its dedication to its aesthetic: each character’s story mode is presented like a serialized anime television show, complete with episodic titles, next-episode previews, and voice acting that fully embraces classic tropes.

The objective is to deplete your opponent’s health bar in one-on-one 3D arena battles. Because the combat system is streamlined, matches revolve around positioning, timing, and punishing mistakes rather than memorizing long combo inputs. You move with the D-pad, press the attack button along with a direction to execute different strikes or cinematic specials, and use the guard button to defend. In the browser, PlayStation controls are mapped to your keyboard (typically the arrow keys for movement, with keys like Z, X, A, and S representing the face buttons, and Enter for Start).

Tips:

  • Since you only have one attack button, managing distance is critical. Use dashes and side-steps to bait your opponent into whiffing an attack, then punish them during their recovery animation.
  • Holding the attack button charges your power gauge, allowing you to unleash massive, screen-filling super moves, but it leaves you completely vulnerable. Only charge when you have knocked your opponent down or created significant distance.
  • Master your character’s capture attacks (throws) to break through an opponent who is relying too heavily on their guard.
