Game description:

Esper Bouken Tai is a Japan-exclusive action-platformer developed by NMK and published by Jaleco for the NES in 1987. Often considered a console variation of the arcade game Psychic 5, this exploration-heavy adventure tasks you with navigating a sprawling map and battling bizarre household objectsโ€”like sentient washing machines and vacuum cleanersโ€”using a giant mallet. As you progress, you rescue and unlock additional characters, each offering unique abilities like higher jumps, greater strength, or hovering capabilities to help you explore further.

How to play

The objective is to explore the large map, defeat enemies, and rescue captured team members to utilize their unique skills. The standard NES controls apply: use the D-pad (mapped to arrow keys) to move, press A (Z key) to jump, and press B (X key) to swing your mallet. Press Start (Enter) to pause and access the character select screen once you have unlocked additional team members.

Tips

  • Swap characters frequently once you unlock them; some areas or jumps are only accessible using a specific character's abilities, like hovering or high jumping.
  • Your mallet attack has a slight delay, so try to time your swings early as enemies approach rather than waiting until they are right next to you.
