Game description:

Equinox is a classic isometric puzzle-platformer released for the SNES in 1993. Developed by Software Creations as the sequel to the NES hit Solstice, the game follows Glendaal on a quest to rescue his father, Shadax. Blending action-adventure elements with brain-teasing room puzzles, you must navigate an overworld map to enter progressively deadlier dungeons. Inside, you’ll dodge traps, push blocks, defeat enemies using throwable weapons and magic spells, and collect tokens to summon and battle each dungeon’s boss.

How to Play

The goal is to explore eight isometric dungeons, gather 12 tokens in each to summon the boss, and collect new weapons and magic spells along the way. Because of the isometric perspective, judging jumps and enemy hitboxes requires careful observation.

Default SNES controls in your browser:

  • Movement (D-pad): Arrow Keys
  • Jump (B): Z
  • Attack / Use Weapon (Y): A
  • Use Magic (X): S
  • Action / Menu (A): X
  • L / R Bumpers: Q / W
  • Start: Enter
  • Select: Shift

Tips for Equinox

  • Watch the shadows: In the isometric view, an object’s shadow is the only reliable way to judge its actual position and height. Pay close attention to your shadow when making precise jumps.
  • Conserve magic power: Magic potions can be scarce. Save your most powerful screen-clearing spells for emergencies or tough boss fights rather than using them on standard enemies.
  • Map your progress: Dungeons are complex and require backtracking with newly found colored keys. Keeping a mental or physical note of locked doors will save you a lot of aimless wandering.
