Elite is a revolutionary space trading and combat simulation originally created by Ian Bell and David Braben. This NTSC demo for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) brings the groundbreaking wireframe 3D graphics and open-ended galaxy exploration of the 1984 classic to the console. Players command a Cobra Mark III starship, trading goods between planetary systems and fighting off pirates to build their wealth and upgrade their vessel.
How to Play
Your objective is to amass wealth through trading, mining, or piracy, and ultimately achieve the coveted “Elite” combat rating. Use the D-pad (mapped to arrow keys) to pitch and roll your ship in flight or navigate menus. Press A (Z) and B (X) to fire your lasers and select options, and use Start (Enter) and Select (Shift) to manage your galactic charts, inventory, and ship status.
Tips
- Trade agricultural goods to industrial planets, and bring technology back to ensure a reliable early-game profit margin.
- Keep your speed low when docking with space stations manually; entering the slot too fast or at an angle will result in a fatal crash.
