Released for the Famicom Disk System in Japan, Egger Land is a challenging block-pushing puzzle game by HAL Laboratory that introduced many players to the beloved character Lolo. Before becoming famous worldwide in the Adventures of Lolo series, Lolo had to navigate these early labyrinthine rooms to rescue Princess Lala from the evil King Egger. The game blends Sokoban-style block puzzles with quick-thinking action, requiring you to carefully plan your route while avoiding dangerous enemies.
How to play
Your goal in every room is to collect all the Heart Framers, which opens the jewel box to the exit. You can move Lolo using the D-pad (arrow keys), and use your magic shots with the A or B buttons (Z or X) to temporarily trap enemies in eggs. You can then push the eggs out of the way, use them as shields, or push them into water to cross over. Pressing Select allows you to give up and restart a room if you get stuck.
Tips
- Enemies have different behaviors: some chase you, while others like the Medusa will instantly strike you if you cross their line of sight. Use blocks and eggs to block their vision.
- You only get a limited number of magic shots from specific Heart Framers, so don’t waste them. Plan carefully which enemies need to be egged to solve the puzzle.
- Sometimes the solution requires you to only push a block halfway to block two paths, or wait for an enemy to move into a specific position before trapping it.
