E.V.O.: Search for Eden is a unique action role-playing game released for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) in 1993, developed by Almanic Corporation and published by Enix. You begin your journey as a humble fish in the primordial ocean and must defeat other creatures to earn evolution points, which are spent to upgrade your jaws, horns, tail, and body. As you progress through different eras of Earth’s history, you evolve into amphibians, reptiles, dinosaurs, birds, and mammals, customizing your creature to survive the challenges of each time period.
How to Play
Your main objective is to navigate side-scrolling levels, defeat enemies, and collect the meat they drop to earn EVO points. You spend these points in the evolution menu to upgrade your creature’s body parts, granting better attacks, defense, and mobility.
Controls: Use the Arrow Keys to move, Z to jump, and X to attack or eat. Press Enter (Start) to access the evolution menu where you spend points, and Shift (Select) to pause or access other options.
Tips
- Strategic healing: Evolving any new body part will completely restore your health. Keep a small reserve of EVO points during tough boss fights so you can evolve mid-battle and heal instantly.
- Experiment with builds: Different combinations have unique strengths. A heavy jaw deals massive damage but reduces your agility, while a lighter body allows for much higher jumps.
- Upgrade your jaws early: A stronger bite lets you dispatch enemies much faster, making it much easier and safer to farm the meat needed for future upgrades.
