Dungeon & Magic – Swords of Element is a classic first-person dungeon crawler developed by Natsume and released by Taito for the NES in 1989. Originally launched in Japan before seeing a Western release as Dungeon Magic: Sword of the Elements, this real-time role-playing game challenges you to explore the sprawling towns and deep labyrinths of the Kingdom of Granville. As a hero following in the footsteps of the legendary “Magi,” you must locate powerful elemental swords to defeat the dark overlord Darces.
How to Play
Your objective is to navigate first-person, tile-based dungeons, battling monsters in real-time and discovering new towns to rest and gather information. Control your character’s movement and actions using the standard NES mapping in your browser: use the Arrow Keys to move and navigate menus, Z and X (mapping to the A and B buttons) to attack or confirm actions, Enter for Start, and Shift for Select.
Tips
- Take advantage of the game’s unique magic system, which requires you to combine different elemental runes to cast a variety of spells.
- Map your surroundings carefully, as the maze-like dungeons can be easy to get lost in during real-time encounters.
