Dragster is a classic racing game developed by David Crane and released by Activision for the Atari 2600 in 1980. One of the very first third-party console games ever made, it challenges you to launch a top fuel dragster down a straight track as fast as possible by carefully managing your clutch, gas, and gear shifts.
How to play
The goal is to cross the finish line in the shortest time without blowing your engine. You must watch your on-screen tachometer; if your engine revs too high into the red zone, it will blow and your race will end immediately. Use the Left Arrow to engage your clutch and the Spacebar to hit the gas. To shift up through the four gears, tap the Right Arrow while holding the clutch.
Tips
- Start the race by revving your engine just before the countdown ends. Drop the clutch the moment the screen flashes to get a fast launch.
- Shift into a higher gear just before the tachometer reaches the red danger zone to maximize your speed and acceleration.
