Dragon Slayer IV: Drasle Family, famously released in the West as Legacy of the Wizard, is an ambitious 1987 action-adventure RPG developed by Nihon Falcom for the NES. Players explore a massive, open-world dungeon as different members of the Drasle family, each with unique abilities necessary to progress and ultimately defeat the ancient dragon Keela.
How to Play
The objective is to navigate the sprawling labyrinth to uncover four hidden crowns, which allow the family to recover the legendary Dragon Slayer sword. You must return to the family home to switch between characters to overcome specific environmental obstacles. The standard NES controls are mapped to your keyboard: use the Arrow Keys to move, Z and X to jump and use items or attack, Enter for Start, and Shift for Select.
Tips
- Know your characters: The father, Xemn, can move blocks with the Power Glove, while the pet monster, Pochi, can safely walk on spikes. Lyll can jump high, and Meyna can use magic.
- Stockpile essentials: Keys and potions are crucial for survival. Buy them at shops whenever you have enough gold to avoid getting stuck deep in the dungeon.
- Map your progress: The labyrinth is vast and interconnected. Keeping track of where you have been and which character is needed for blocked paths will save you a lot of backtracking.
