Downtown Nekketsu Koushin Kyoku: Soreyuke Daiundoukai is a chaotic sports and beat ’em up game released for the NES in 1990 by Technōs Japan. As a classic entry in the beloved Kunio-kun series, it breaks the rules of traditional track and field by encouraging players to punch, kick, and use weapons against their opponents in a fierce four-team school tournament.

How to Play

The objective is to guide your school’s team to victory across four events: Cross Country, the Obstacle Course, the Camphor Ball competition, and a final Martial Arts tournament. Rather than just racing, you can and should attack rival runners to deplete their health and knock them out.

Tips

• Use Weapons: Pick up items like dumbbells and wooden swords scattered around the courses to deal massive damage to your opponents.
• Conserve Health: If a character’s health bar depletes completely during an event, they will be knocked out and unable to score points for that round.
• Know Your Team: Each school has specific characters with unique stats and special moves. Pick the right student for the right event.
