Game description:

Double Dare is a trivia and mini-game title developed by Rare and released for the NES in 1990, bringing the messy, physical challenges of the classic Nickelodeon game show to home consoles. Players compete against a friend or the CPU by answering general knowledge questions, with the option to dare or double dare opponents to force them into a physical challenge. The game culminates in the famous obstacle course, where the winning team must race against the clock to collect eight flags.

How to Play

The objective is to earn the most money by correctly answering trivia or winning physical challenges, then successfully completing the final obstacle course. The standard NES controls are mapped to your keyboard: use the Arrow keys for the D-pad to navigate menus and move during challenges, Z and X for the A and B buttons to interact or mash during mini-games, Enter for Start, and Shift for Select.

Tips

  • During physical challenges, pay close attention to the pre-challenge instructions screen, as each mini-game requires different timing or button-mashing mechanics to succeed.
  • If you aren’t confident in a trivia answer, it is often safer to dare your opponentโ€”forcing them to either answer correctly or attempt a tricky physical challenge.
  • In the final obstacle course, don’t rush blindly; each obstacle has a specific interaction required (like jumping at the right time or mashing a button) to grab its flag without getting stuck.
