Game description:

Dossun! Ganseki Battle is a 1994 competitive puzzle game developed by I’Max for the Super Famicom (SNES). Blending falling-block puzzle mechanics with head-to-head RPG combat, you choose a character with unique stats and face off against opponents by clearing matching symbols. Instead of just trying to fill the enemy’s board, you can also win by depleting their health bar entirely, making it an early pioneer of the puzzle-fighter subgenre.

How to Play

Blocks drop from the top of the screen; move them left and right with the D-pad and rotate them with the A or B buttons. Your goal is to connect three or more matching symbols in a vertical, horizontal, or diagonal line. Swords, rocks, and scrolls deal damage to your opponent, while potions restore your character’s health. Purple blocks are neutral junk that clutter the board. You win when your opponent’s health is drained to zero, or if their board fills up to the very top.

Tips

  • Build chains for big damage: Setting up combos where one clear causes blocks to fall and create another clear will launch massive damage and drop garbage blocks on your opponent.
  • Save your special attacks: Complex chains earn you powerful abilities that you can store and unleash using the L or R shoulder buttons when you’re in a pinch.
  • Prioritize potions when low: Keep an eye on your health bar at the top of the screen and focus entirely on matching potions if you are about to be knocked out.
