Game description:

Don Doko Don is a single-screen arcade platformer developed by Taito, brought to the NES in 1990. In a similar style to Taito’s classic Bubble Bobble, players control dwarven lumberjacks tasked with clearing screens of enemies to progress through various whimsical worlds. Though this version was originally a Japanese Famicom release, it remains fully playable without Japanese reading skills.

How to Play

The objective is to clear every enemy from the single-screen stage to advance. Instead of jumping on enemies, use your mallet to stun them. Once stunned, you can pick up the enemy and hurl it across the screen to defeat other enemies and rack up bonus points.

  • Arrow Keys: Move left and right or climb ladders.
  • Z Key: Swing your mallet to stun enemies (A button).
  • X Key: Jump (B button).
  • Enter: Start the game (Start).
  • Shift: Select (Select).

Tips

  • Try to line up multiple enemies before throwing a stunned enemy; taking out several at once yields significantly higher bonus items and points.
  • You can jump through the platforms from underneath to quickly escape or reposition yourself above enemies.
  • Be careful not to hold onto a stunned enemy for too long, as they will eventually wake up and break free.
