Dizzy: Prince of the Yolkfolk is a classic puzzle-platformer developed by Big Red Software and released for DOS in 1991. You guide the egg-shaped hero, Dizzy, on a quest through a magical land to rescue his girlfriend, Daisy, from a deep sleep cast by Rockwart the troll. Combining careful platforming with inventory-based puzzle solving, it remains one of the most beloved and accessible entries in the long-running action-adventure series.
How to play
Your objective is to explore the environment, collect items, and figure out where to use them to unlock new areas and progress the story. The game relies on standard keyboard controls, typically using the arrow keys to walk and jump, and the Enter or Space keys to interact with your inventory. Keep in mind that Dizzy can only carry a limited number of items at a time. For fullscreen play, press Right Alt + Enter.
Tips
- Manage your inventory: Dizzy can only hold up to three items. Drop unneeded objects in a safe, central location so you can easily retrieve them when a puzzle requires them.
- Mind the momentum: Because of his egg shape, Dizzy rolls slightly when landing from a jump. Account for this extra movement to avoid accidentally tumbling into water or hazards.
- Search thoroughly: Important items often blend in with the scenery. Pay close attention to every new screen to ensure you don’t leave a crucial puzzle piece behind.
