Disney’s Darkwing Duck is a 1992 NES action platformer developed by Capcom, based on the Disney animated series of the same name. You play as Drake Mallard — the caped crimefighter who bills himself as the terror that flaps in the night — working through a series of stages full of goons and facing off against bosses drawn from the show’s villain roster, most notably Megavolt.
How to play
Darkwing’s primary weapon is his gas gun. Press Z to fire and X to jump; the arrow keys move him and aim the gun up or down when held. Throughout each stage you’ll find gas cartridges that replace your standard shot with different effects — including a cloud type that solidifies into a temporary platform beneath your feet, useful for crossing gaps and repositioning during boss fights.
Controls: arrow keys to move and aim; X to jump; Z to fire; Enter to start; Shift for Select.
Tips
- The cloud gas cartridge works offensively as well as for traversal — create a platform above a boss to cut their movement and fire down from a safe angle.
- Most bosses broadcast their next move with a brief wind-up animation; read that tell before committing to a jump or shot rather than pressing in blind.
