Dig Dug II (Japan) is an action puzzle game released by Namco in 1986. Unlike its predecessor which took place underground, this sequel brings Taizo Hori to the surface of an island archipelago. Viewed from a top-down perspective, you must clear each island of Pookas and Fygars. You can eliminate them by either inflating them until they burst, or by using a jackhammer on designated fault lines to strategically break off pieces of the island and sink your foes into the sea.
How to Play
The objective is to defeat all enemies on the screen to advance to the next stage. You can either pump enemies to pop them, or use the jackhammer on pegs to create cracks; connecting cracks to the ocean causes that section of land to collapse.
Controls: Use the directional buttons to move around the island. The primary buttons are used to operate your pump and your jackhammer. In your browser, these typically map to the arrow keys for movement, and the Z and X keys for your tools, with Enter and Shift acting as Start and Select.
Tips
- Sinking a large chunk of the island with multiple enemies on it yields significantly more points than inflating them individually.
- Always make sure you are standing on the larger, stable side of the fault line when the island breaks, otherwise you will plunge into the water and lose a life.
- Fygars can breathe fire horizontally, so it is safer to approach them from above or below to avoid their attacks.
