Death Sword (also known as Barbarian: The Ultimate Warrior) is a 1987 one-on-one fighting game developed by Palace Software. Set in barbaric arenas, two warriors fight to the death using a variety of sword swings, kicks, and evasive rolls. It stands out in the early DOS fighting genre for its fast-paced, brutal combat and detailed animations.
How to play
The objective is to defeat your opponent by depleting their health bar or landing a fatal blow. Combat relies heavily on timing and distance. You can block incoming strikes, perform flying neck chops, and execute evasive rolls. The game supports a two-player mode for local head-to-head matches on the same keyboard.
Tips
- The Decapitation Strike: A well-timed spinning slash to the neck can instantly win the round regardless of the opponent’s remaining health, but it leaves you vulnerable if you miss.
- Control the Spacing: Use the roll move to quickly close the gap or escape when you are backed into a corner.
