Developed by Konami, Crackout is an action block-breaking game originally released in Japan as Nazo no Kabe: Block Kuzushi (1986) and later in Europe and Australia (1991) for the Nintendo Entertainment System. This unreleased North American prototype brings classic Breakout-style mechanics to the NES, featuring multiple thematic zones, boss fights, floating enemy obstacles, and an assortment of paddle power-ups.
How to Play
Control the paddle at the bottom of the playfield to deflect the bouncing ball into rows of colored blocks. Destroy all breakable blocks to advance to the next level while dodging roaming stage hazards and enemy creatures that deflect your ball.
- Move Paddle Left / Right: Left / Right Arrow Keys
- Launch Ball / Fire Weapon: Z Key (A Button)
- Special Action: X Key (B Button)
- Start Game / Pause: Enter Key
- Select: Shift Key
Tips
- Target wandering enemies: Striking enemy creatures with the ball knocks them off the screen, preventing them from unexpectedly altering your ball’s trajectory.
- Prioritize weapon power-ups: Collecting laser or missile upgrades allows your paddle to shoot and destroy stubborn blocks directly without relying solely on ball bounces.
