Released in 1982 by Arcadia Corporation, Communist Mutants from Space is an action-shooter for the Atari 2600 that plays similarly to arcade classics like Galaxian. Originally distributed on cassette tape for the Supercharger add-on, it tasks you with defending against relentless waves of alien invaders spawned by a central Mother Creature.
How to play
Your goal is to clear the descending mutant swarms and survive for as long as possible. The game uses standard joystick inputs: move your ship using the arrow keys (Player 1) or T, F, G, and H (Player 2), and press the Spacebar or A to fire. The F12 and F11 keys map to the console’s Reset and Select switches, which you use to start the game and cycle through the various gameplay options.
Tips
- Focus your fire on the Mother Creature at the top of the screen whenever her shield opens; destroying her temporarily stops the aliens from replenishing their ranks.
- The mutants become much more dangerous when they break formation to dive at you. Prioritize shooting diving enemies before they reach the bottom of the screen.
